The Elixir is like a multivitamin for your house plants. The formula contains macro and micronutrients which provide the all-round nutrition your house plant needs. The actives will boost chlorophyll production, photosynthetic rate and resilience. Practically, this means larger foliage, stronger stems, and greater resistance to common plant stressors like forgetting to water for several weeks.
The ultra concentrated formulation is designed to feed a typical family of 15 mixed size house plants for over 4 months.
Why the Elixir is so special
RENEWABLE INGREDIENTS
Our elemental ingredients use pioneering circular economy technology to reduce this product’s CO2 emissions and impact on the environment.
SHAKE TO ACTIVATE
Shaking the elixir ensures that all solids which may have crystallised out of solution are re-dissolved. The energy in the water that the macro and micronutrients are dissolved in will have slightly lowered as the elixir sits still on a shelf. As a result, some of the ions may have been attracted to each other and formed a crystalline solid. By shaking, you energise the water. As water molecules have a slightly polarised charge, they act to pull apart the ions which will have come together to form a crystalline solid. We want these ions to be evenly dispersed every time we apply the Elixir to our plants to ensure consistent, high-performance results.
ACTIVES
Macronutrients - Plant macronutrients are essential for proper growth.
Magnesium is at the centre of the light-absorbing structure of chlorophyll, helping to make plants green. It’s also an enzyme activator, assisting in many enzymatic activities.
Nitrogen is a component of molecules from amino and nucleic acids to chlorophyll, so it should come as no surprise that it’s important to structural growth, metabolism, and the conversion of energy to carbohydrate through chlorophyll. Every amino acid has at least one nitrogen atom. Gardeners know nitrogen for supporting the green, vegetative growth (leaves, shoots and stems to you and me).
Phosphorus has the most diverse set of cellular functions of all the mineral nutrients. It is incorporated in many important biological molecules in plants AND humans including nucleic acids (aka DNA and RNA)and the primary energy transfer molecule ATP. And still most gardeners know it best as supporting strong roots and flower development.
Potassium is the workhorse : it’s important to water and energy relationships in plants, transport, but it’s best known for its role in plant fertility.
Micronutrients - Plant micronutrients are essential for proper growth, but they’re only needed in small amounts to make a mighty impact. If a plant were a car, micronutrients would be responsible for controlling the small, but essential parts, like seat belts, airbags, windscreen wipers and so on.
Boron is essential to plants forming strong, water-tight cell walls and healthy reproductive organs (AKA flowers and fruit).
Copper is integral to healthy plant growth. Not only is it involved in photosynthesis, a catalyst for respiration and a component of enzymes, but copper is involved in the production of plant structure-strengthening lignin.
Iron is essential for chlorophyll synthesis, especially the key light-absorbing part that enables plants to turn sunlight into energy through photosynthesis.
Manganese is essential for chloroplast production and photosynthesis. It activates enzymes, increases nitrogen metabolism and carbohydrate utilisation, and it plays a role in building plant resistance to, or tolerance of, diseases.
Molybdenum enables plants to utilise nitrogen. Involved with nitrogen fixation and turning nitrate to ammonium.
Zinc is a component of many enzymes as well as being critical for plant hormone balance and protection. Zinc helps to maintain the level of auxin, a key plant hormone that controls cell division and expansion. Not only is it needed for auxin production, but it helps protect the hormone from damage.
ADVANCED SCIENTIFIC INFORMATION
What does 7-3-5 N-P-K mean?
7-3-5 indicates 7% nitrogen (N), 3% phosphorous (P) pentoxide and 5% potassium (K) oxide. This balance was chosen to reflect the natural environment of most houseplants; it has a lower phosphorous level than most conventional fertilisers to reflect the fact that houseplants are less likely to develop flowers and more likely to concentrate resources on their leaf growth.
How can I envisage what’s in the Elixir?
The elixir contains macronutrients (like potassium) at a high concentration; these are necessary for the fundamental growth of the plant. It then contains essential micronutrients (like magnesium) in tiny doses to allow plants to form essential linkages. There are more ions of nitrogen in one bottle of elixir than there are stars in the sky. (7.5 x 1022 stars in the universe vs. 3 x 1023 atoms of N in Sowvital) If the Magnesium ions in Sowvital were peas lined up together, they would loop 317 times around the sun and earth. (7.5x1021 Mg ions in Sowvital).
How to Use
The elixir is ultra concentrated, so it needs just one full pipette in one litre of water to provide full nourishment for many plants at a time.
Shake the elixir bottle, put one dropper’s worth in a litre of water and pour around the base of your houseplants once a week on Sundays.
Feed your plants once a week in Spring, Summer and Autumn when they are growing their fastest. You can give them a boost in the Winter too. Sowvital Elixir boosts all parts of the plant, ensuring that their growth is supported and healthy.
