Care Instructions:
We advise you to use an anti-slip adhésive for the kilim rugs. They should be cut within the dimensions of the kilim and applied directly onto the floor to secure the kilim in place and avoid slips and use.
Specific stain treatment cleaning (wine, mud….): seek professional cleaners.
Hand wash : It’s advised to use water and natural soap. Wash your kilim outside with a hose while avoiding aggressive detergents. Use a 100% natural soap or carpet shampoo. DO NOT SOAK your kilim. DRY IT OUT FLAT outside (on the grass or gravel, avoiding tiled areas so the water can drain), as you may experience color bleeding.
Use a damp cloth to clean small stains. You can add a little vinegar into cold water, as vinegar will help keep the colors from running.
NEVER WASH A KILIM IN THE WASHING MACHINE.
Candle drippings: Apply blotting paper over the wax, pass a hot iron over the stain until the wax is completely absorbed.
You can use any broom to clean the rug, but a hand broom, which is essentially a handheld brush with bristles that is long like a traditional broom, offers the most control.
Use low suction. You can use a vacuum cleaner to keep your kilim rug clean, but you shouldn’t use a high suction setting or the revolving brush on your vacuum. Both can snag the fibers and cause damage.
Avoid vacuuming the fringe. The fringe definitely adds to a kilim rug’s charm, so you want to keep it intact. Don’t run your vacuum over the fringe because it may snag the fibers and unravel or tear them off.
You can seek professional cleaners once in every 5 years to clean your kilim.
